Monthly Corral Meeting: Guest Speaker Rod Bergen

Please join us for our monthly corral meeting with Guest Speaker Rod Bergen.  Rod will speak on the topic of “Getting Along with Horses”.

Rod Bergen Bio

From his long history with horses, from his family on a large ranch in Texas with grandfathers working as cowboys, grand uncles as a Texas Ranger, another a U.S. Marshall, eventually Rod headed to California. Rod is a certified riding instructor with the ARIA in their highest level-advanced category – as instructor in recreational riding, mounted patrol, and dressage. Also selected for 2009 as the top national ARIA Riding Instructor Test Center Administrator.

Selected as the nation’s top mounted patrol instructor in 2001 by the major U.S. mounted police agencies, Rod was also selected as one of the top 50 riding instructors in the United States in 2007. He has given dignitary mounted protection to three US presidents, provided mounted security to the 1996 Rose Parade’s Grand Marshall, and certified by the State of California as a Law Enforcement Mounted Patrol Trailing Officer.

Since 1996, Rod has taught horseback riding at Los Angeles Pierce College, and for over 20 years he performed Horse/Human Bomb Proofing Clinics. As a prime initiator of LACDACCERT Equine Response Team, the ERT was vested in 1999 by then LA County 3rd District Supervisor, Zev Yaroslavsky.

As a forensics consultant/witness, Rod has handled close to 100 cases with legal cases in Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Michigan, Florida, Maine, Washington, Nevada, Illinois and several in California. With a landmark decision in Seattle, Washington, Rod has been retained by the Miami, Florida Police Dept.

Four times, Rod has been a presenter/clinician at Equine Affair and Western States Horse Expo, and the ARIA annual convention in Naples, Florida. Five years in Malibu, he was president of Trancas Riders & Ropers; also, formerly president of ETI Corral 63; and president and co-founder of ETI Corral 36.
