SUMMARY:Lester Buckley Open Horsemanship Clinic
DESCRIPTION:A real opportunity for those who live in California or are visiting in the Spring. The clinic will offer group lessons + semi-private lessons\, lecture\, demonstration\, and Q&A. This format not only offers a wealth of information\, but the opportunity to discuss a personal post-clinic training focus with Lester. Clinic is limited to 12 riders and can accommodate an unlimited number of auditors. \nPre-registration is required for all clinic participants and auditors. Interactive Auditing is available for $50/day – Auditors can take part in discussions \n  \n \nLester Buckley Bio \nLester Buckley is an unusual\, multi-disciplinary teacher of both horsemanship and the principles of Classical Dressage. He is respected among his peers as one of the most accomplished equestrians and gifted teachers in the business today. \nLester grew up in the historic cattle country of North Texas. He earned his B. S. in Equine Science from Sul Ross State University in Texas. As part of his college education\, Lester worked with Ray Hunt in colt starting and horsemanship classes over a four-year period. After graduation\, Lester went on to starting colts for the King Ranch in Texas and the Parker Ranch in Hawaii\, personally starting over 3000 horses. He apprenticed with National Cutting Horse Hall of Fame rider Willie Richardson for seven years\, and was a successful cutting competitor himself\, earning a rank of #2 in the World Open Senior Horse Cutters in 1999. \nLester’s immersion into the world of classical dressage came about\, oddly enough\, as a result of showing cutters in the early 2000s. While showing at a cutting horse competition in Fort Worth\, TX\, Lester had the opportunity to be introduced to and invited by Hannes Muller\, head instructor of the Nordrhein-Westfälisches Landgestüt and German Olympic training center in Warendorf\, Germany to come to Germany and train. That was the beginning of Lester’s in-depth classical dressage training and from 2003-2013\, he traveled back and forth to Germany\, all the while continuing his regular work as an independent trainer in Hawaii. Lester completed the program\, earning his International Trainers License in Dressage and Sport Jumping from the German FN. \nIn his career\, Lester has trained all kinds of horses\, from untouched mountain horses in the Canadian Rockies to elite level dressage and jumping competition to horses used by working cowboys and cattlemen. His personal competition accomplishments include Reserve World Champion APHA Open Superstakes\, an APHA Open Cutting Honor Roll Top Ten Horse\, showed NCHA 3000 Novice Cutting Horse Champion as well as BCCHA 10000 Novice Cutting Horse Champion. \nLester and his wife\, Mary\, now live on their horse farm in Shelbyville\, Kentucky. Lester is a sought-after clincian across the U.S.\, in addition to making trips to Germany\, to share his knowledge with riders and trainers from every discipline. This includes Grand Prix dressage riders\, top hunter/jumper trainers\, mustang owners\, and Western dressage riders seeking to apply the principles of classical dressage. \nBut with all of the achievements noted above\, the testament to Lester’s unique abilities is written in the expression of the horse’s face after a ride and the experiences of their riders at clinics. We therefore welcome your thoughts\, insights and reflections of your rides with Lester.

SUMMARY:Horse Mornings @ Agoura Arena: Horse Hoof Health\, Barefoot Discussion and Demo
DESCRIPTION:What you should know when it comes to your horse’s hoof health!! \n \nJoin us as Tiva Delcour shares thoughts from her years of hands-on field experience in transitioning horses to a natural barefoot solution. \nAt this workshop\, learn about: \n\nThe bone structure of the hoof\nHow nutrition affects hoof health\nHow to tell if your horse’s hooves are healthy\nThe options & benefits for horses going barefoot\nThe challenges of taking off horseshoes\nCorrectional trims\n\nDid you know: \n\nHorses are being competed barefoot in many sports\nWhen we put shoes on a horse\, the shoes actually restricts\nthe hoof’s natural flexion which removes its ability to pump\nblood\, eliminating circulation in the hoof mechanism\nIt takes approximately eight months for a horse to grow a\nnew hoof\, from hairline to the ground\n\n  \n \nBio for Tiva Delcour \nKativa Delcour is from Lenox\, Massachusetts. At the age of 10\, she started studying horse anatomy and the structure and function of hooves\, along with training\, and showing English and Western. At age 17\, she began training to be a jockey. Seeing how the horses were treated\, she decided she did not want to be apart of that abuse and left that sport behind. \nIn 2003 she moved to California and worked for Cavalia as a groom and then worked for a rescue and adopted a National Show Horse that had been rescued from a feed lot heading for slaughter. The horse was severely emaciated with neglected feet that looked more like pancakes. After firing her 5th farrier in 1 year\, she decided she need to figure out what was happening and why. \nShe started studying with Pete Ramey for “barefoot” trimming and pathologies in horses feet. During that time\, she started working at Conejo Valley Vet Equine Hospital as a vet tech in 2005. With the help of the Equine hospital learning in the field doing numerous lameness exams\, pre purchase exams and radiographs she decided to go to another school in 2006\, Oregon School of Natural Hoofcare under Cheryl Henderson. It was a school that studied in-depth pathologies in horses hooves and legs and corrective trimming. From there lead her into studying nutrition with Katy Watts of SaferGrass.org \, metabolic imbalances and Functional Medicine that got to the root cause of illnesses and treating horses from a nutritional stand point and healing them\, which lead her to Dr. Rhiannon Fenton. \nShe also has been active at the Eponamind School in Paso Robles and just recently went with a client’s horse to radiograph and put Epona shoes on\, as well as study more pathologies and dissections. \n  \n  \nThe Agoura Horse Morning Casual Weekend Workshops are no-cost events for ETI members and friends. \n8:30 – 9:00                  Check-in\, coffee and snacks provided\n9:00-11:00                   Demonstration and open discussion \n  \n

SUMMARY:ETI National Death Valley Ride
DESCRIPTION:On October 31\, 1994 Death Valley became a National Park\, making it the largest National Park outside Alaska. Death Valley has an unusual variety of features ranging from Telescope Peak at 11\,049 feet to Badwater at 2828 feet below sea level\, to the largest sand dunes in California. Death Valley National Park you may think of as just desert\, but there are other elements to this park. It’s composed of 3.3 million acres; 60 percent of which is over 1\,000 feet in elevation with its highest point at over 11\,000 feet. Not only are there sand dunes\, there are sagebrush flats\, hills that have a grassland appearance to them\, and then there is the high country. \n“You can stand in your stirrups\, look around and not see a single sign of man.” \nEquestrian Trails\, Inc. has been holding this Death Valley ride since 1960. The ride followed the old historic 20-Mule Team Trail from Ridgecrest\, California\, to Furnace Creek\, to Death Valley as part of the Death Valley 49ers Annual Encampment. Riders covered 125 miles in six days making camp at a new location each night. \nDue to changes to the National Park regulations in 2013\, we needed to reroute our trail. We still ride in and around Death Valley\, traveling over 100 miles\, following the Mule Team route\, seeing old ghost towns and mining areas. We provide all of the comforts of home: great food\, traveling beverage wagons and a fresh shower wagon. All Death Valley Ride crew members are volunteers\, from our gourmet cooks\, to our luggage handlers\, veterinarian\, horse shoer\, trail bosses and every post in between. \nThough we have adjusted to an easier trip for our riders\, our Death Valley Ride is still an adventure to enjoy and remember.
